I had a lot of fun with this challenging card which I was commissioned to make for a masculine birthday with a drink and tropical theme.
Stamps: Mixed Drinks, Crazy About You, Pop of Paradise
Ink: Watermelon Wonder, So Saffron, Peekaboo Peach, Basic Black
Paper: Whisper White, Basic Black, Peekaboo Peach
Accessories: Fine-Tip Glue Pen, Brayer, Sponges, Hello You Thinlits
First, I found a recent fabulous card by Michelle Zindorf which I used as a starting reference for my sunset card. I did not have her tutorial for it so I used the image to create my own attempt! I will try to give an explanation here:
-Use a scratch piece of paper to mask the center, using the brayer start by layering the So Saffron ink. Then I applied Peekabook peach keeping a center area mostly still only in So Saffron ink. This will be your sun reflection area. Covering even less area, once again brayer in from the sides, using Watermelon Wonder ink.
-Reverse the edge of your scratch paper covering the sky area. Apply with the brayer Watermelon Wonder ink only along the horizon edge of the water line.
-Reverse the scratch paper once again to cover the water.
-Create a circle mask for your Sun, first sponging inside the cut out shape like a stencil for the sun. Use the cut out shape to mask the sun as you brayer your sky.
-Once again, use the brayer to ink the sky, keeping a pale edge along the horizon. Layer Peekaboo peach and Watermelon Wonder a little further up. I wanted my sky to look a bit darker than the water.
-Using Black ink I stamped the Banana Leaves and Philodendron Leaves. I used my MISTI to re-ink the stamp multiple times to get enough coverage of the black ink. I used a sponge to sponge around the base and around the leaves a bit.
-Stamped the drinks separately, cut out by hand. TIP: I used the fine-tip glue pen to add a bit of glossy texture to the drink glasses. Since this is a masculine card I wanted minimal bling.
-Used Basic Black Scraps of cardstock for the table and table leg. The drinks are glued flat to appear sitting on top of the table.
-The "Happy" die cut cut in Peekaboo Peach, the Birthday To You stamped in Watermelon Wonder.
Layered with Basic Black and Peekaboo Peach for the card base. The card measures 5.5 x 8.5 in.
I think there was some sort of indentation on the cardstock when creating my sun. Its like a little sunspot. It gives the card character.
I am truly happy with this card, thanks for taking the time to visit my blog!
Well done! It's a beautiful card.
